Knowing
that film gives a big impact for children’s life, I really concern of the film
watched by my daughter. In her age of 2 years old, I can count how many film
she has watched. I usually read the review of every film that I want to let my
daughter watch. If it’s possible, I
watch the film by myself first. Even my
husband and I patiently wait until my daughter sleeps every time we want to
watch a so called “not for children” film. I
had never let her watch action sequence, at least until last weekend. So,
here comes the story.
I took Qian to cinema to watch jungle book film last week. I had read several review about it and most of them say that it is a good film for children and not even one of them tell about parental guidance. That is why I decided to make this film as the first film watched by Qian in cinema.
This film tells about the journey of a man-cub mowgli. He was nicely raised by a pack of wolves until a tiger named Shere Khan insisted to eat him and threaten the wolves. Guided by a panther and a bear, he struggled to find his place in the middle of the jungle amid the variety of animals. He met a herd of buffalo, a giant snake, a parade of elephants, and a troop of monkeys. He went into all sorts of dangers.
Taken as a whole, the film is just a lot of fun with good animation filled with picture of animals and beautiful scenery, lively performances from a strong cast, and delightful musical scenes. For my 9-year-old , there weren’t any frightening scene. In contrast, for kids who are sensitive like my 2-year-old daughter and her 3-year-old cousin, there were some hideous thrilling action sequence which provoke me and my sister-in-law to keep talking, calming them, and explaining the reasons behind those actions and how to deal with certain situation. The most horrible scene was the brutal scuffle between a tiger and a bear, which made my daughter insisted to go outside.
My suggestion for parents who are interested in inviting your kids to watch this film is to explain something to your kids before going to the cinema (it’s my fault not doing this). Tell your kids that there are some animals that eat other animal and they have to do it to keep them alive. You can also add the explanation about food chain, food web and how some animals defence in unique ways.
